Karamu Early Childhood Development Center is dedicated to the needs of the parents and children. We are committed to educating children and playing a major role in each child’s development from six (6) weeks to fourteen (14) years of age.
Appointments to meet and talk with your
Child’s teachers are encouraged.
Educational Goals:
- To focus on the overall development
of the child’s academic readiness
- To provide an atmosphere that encourages experimenting, exploring, investigating and playing with materials in a challenging environment
- To provide freedom of expression and creativity but guidance as the child discovers and develops problem solving, goal oriented and individual skills.
Fees are due each week on Monday of the week childcare is provided.

History
Established in 1945, Karamu’s Early Childhood Development Center is nationally recognized as one of the nation’s oldest and most enriching programs of its kind. The center has evolved into a modern, arts focused, educational facility with a state of the arts outdoor play area. The center offers year-round full or half day services to preschoolers ages 6 weeks to 5 years and before and after-schoolers, ages 6 to 14 years.
Programs Available:
Infant Toddler
6 weeks to 2 ½ not potty trained
Young ones are nurtured in a clean, safe
Environment with opportunities to improve their motor and speech skills
Assistance is provided with potty training.
Pre-School
2 ½ to 5 potty trained
Children are taught basic concepts and social skills. In addition to the traditional classes they receive instruction in dance, drama, music and computer classes.
Before and After School
Kindergarten to 14 years
This program is offered year-round – full or half day service.
Summer Cultural Arts Program
Kindergarten to 14 years
A nine week program designed for fun in the summer time with instruction in music, art, drama, martial arts, dance, and creative writing ending in a dramatic performance
